|
| We can kill them. I checked with Phil B. about them last week, and he
| didn't remember any reason they still needed to be there. And nothing
| should know where they are on the stack. Unfortunately, doing this
| will upset GDB, which knows that the saved registers are 0x88 bytes
| above the stack pointer on entrance to an rt signal trampoline; but,
| since puc and pinfo are quite recognizable, I can adapt GDB to support
| the new layout if you want to remove them.

The old-abi sys_syscall syscall is broken when called from Thumb mode. It
assumes the syscall number is an Arm syscall number (ie. starts from
__NR_OABI_SYSCALL_BASE). In thumb mode syscall numbers start from zero.
The patch below fixes this by clearing the nigh bits of the syscall number
instead of inverting them. Technically this means we accept some invalid
syscall numbers, but I can't see how that could be a problem. The two sets of
numbers far apart that unimplemented syscalls should still be rejected.

Now that kconfig can load multiple configurations, it becomes simple to
integrate the split config step, by simply comparing the new .config file with
the old auto.conf (and then saving the new auto.conf). A nice side effect is
that this saves a bit of disk space and cache, as no data needs to be read
from or saved into the splitted config files anymore (e.g. include/config is

Patch from Matt Reimer
There is a subtle bug in the GPIO interrupt status register
handling in arch/arm/mach-imx/irq.c:imx_gpio_ack_irq(). The
documentation states that a 1 should be written to the relevant bit to
acknowledge a GPIO interrupt, but that is not what the code does.
The problem is that the |= writes back 1s for all the *other*
interrupts represented in the register, so interrupts could get lost.
For example, if interrupts are pending for GPIO B10 and B12, ISR_B
would have the value 0x00001400. Then when the interrupt code handles
GPIO B10, it eventually calls imx_gpio_ack_irq(IRQ_GPIOB(10)), which
effectively does this:
ISR_B |= 1 << 10;
with the result that (0x00001400 | 0x00000400) is written, clearing
the interrupt status bits for *both* GPIO B10 and B12.
The fix is to write 1s only for the interrupts we want to clear.
The same problem seems to be occurring in the DMA code; this patch
does not address those issues.

While testing the genirq code on ARM, a condition was found whereby

Under the ARM IRQ code, this would not have been a visible problem
because the "simple" IRQ handling had no re-entrancy protection.

On the ixp23xx, the microengine thread interrupt sources are numbered
56..119, but their mask/status bits are located in bit positions 64..127
in the various registers in the interrupt controller (bit positions
56..63 are unused.)
We don't deal with this, so currently, when asked to enable IRQ 64, we
will enable IRQ 56 instead.
The only interrupts >= 64 are the thread interrupt sources, and there
are no in-tree users of those yet, so this is fortunately not a big
problem, but this needs fixing anyway.

Patch from Dimitry Andric
In arch/arm/mach-s3c2410/sleep.S, the coprocessor registers are saved at
suspend time, and restored at resume time. However, an undefined
instruction is used when attempting to restore a non-existent "auxiliary
control register". This leads to a crash on S3C2412, which has an ARM926
core instead of an ARM920.
At suspend time, the following fragment runs:
mrc p15, 0, r7, c2, c0, 0 @ translation table base address
mrc p15, 0, r8, c2, c0, 0 @ auxiliary control register
mrc p15, 0, r9, c1, c0, 0 @ control register
and at resume time, the following fragment runs:
mcr p15, 0, r7, c2, c0, 0 @ translation table base
mcr p15, 0, r8, c1, c1, 0 @ auxilliary control
...
mcr p15, 0, r9, c1, c0, 0 @ turn on MMU, etc
There are several problems with these fragments:
1. The ARM920 and ARM926 cores don't have any "auxiliary control
register", at least not according to the ARM920 and ARM926 TRM's.
2. The 2nd line of suspend erroneously saves the c2 register again.
3. This saved c2 value is restored using an undefined instruction. For
some reason this does not crash on ARM920, but does crash on ARM926.
The following patch fixes all these problems.

being exported from lib/string.c. Investigating further, I noticed a
changeset that removed its export and added it to _ksyms.c on a few more

Current implementations define NODES_SHIFT in include/asm-xxx/numnodes.h for
each arch. Its definition is sometimes configurable. Indeed, ia64 defines 5
NODES_SHIFT values in the current git tree. But it looks a bit messy.
SGI-SN2(ia64) system requires 1024 nodes, and the number of nodes already has
been changeable by config. Suitable node's number may be changed in the
future even if it is other architecture. So, I wrote configurable node's
number.
This patch set defines just default value for each arch which needs multi
nodes except ia64. But, it is easy to change to configurable if necessary.
On ia64 the number of nodes can be already configured in generic ia64 and SN2
config. But, NODES_SHIFT is defined for DIG64 and HP'S machine too. So, I
changed it so that all platforms can be configured via CONFIG_NODES_SHIFT. It
would be simpler.

Patch from Pavel Pisa
This patch adds support of i.MX/MX1 SD/MMC controller.
It has been significantly redesigned from the original Sascha Hauer's
version to support scatter-gather DMA, to conform to latest Pierre Ossman's
and Russell King's MMC-SD Linux 2.6.x infrastructure.
The handling of all events has been moved to the softirq context
and is designed with no busy-looping in mind. Unfortunately
some controller bugs has to be overcome by limited looping
about 2-20 usec but these are observed only for initial card
recognition phase.
There are still some missing/missed IRQs problems under heavy load.
Help of somebody with access to the full SDHC design information
is probably necessary.

Patch from Lennert Buytenhek
This patch adds support for the I/O coherent cache available on the
xsc3. The approach is to provide a simple API to determine whether the
chipset supports coherency by calling arch_is_coherent() and then
setting the appropriate system memory PTE and PMD bits. In addition,
we call this API on dma_alloc_coherent() and dma_map_single() calls.
A generic version exists that will compile out all the coherency-related
code that is not needed on the majority of ARM systems.
Note that we do not check for coherency in the dma_alloc_writecombine()
function as that still requires a special PTE setting. We also don't
touch dma_mmap_coherent() as that is a special ARM-only API that is by
definition only used on non-coherent system.

Patch from Lennert Buytenhek
This patch adds support for the new XScale v3 core. This is an
ARMv5 ISA core with the following additions:
- L2 cache
- I/O coherency support (on select chipsets)
- Low-Locality Reference cache attributes (replaces mini-cache)
- Supersections (v6 compatible)
- 36-bit addressing (v6 compatible)
- Single instruction cache line clean/invalidate
- LRU cache replacement (vs round-robin)
I attempted to merge the XSC3 support into proc-xscale.S, but XSC3
cores have separate errata and have to handle things like L2, so it
is simpler to keep it separate.
L2 cache support is currently a build option because the L2 enable
bit must be set before we enable the MMU and there is no easy way to
capture command line parameters at this point.
There are still optimizations that can be done such as using LLR for
copypage (in theory using the exisiting mini-cache code) but those
can be addressed down the road.

The kernel's implementation of notifier chains is unsafe. There is no
protection against entries being added to or removed from a chain while the
chain is in use. The issues were discussed in this thread:
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=113018709002036&w=2
We noticed that notifier chains in the kernel fall into two basic usage
classes:
"Blocking" chains are always called from a process context
and the callout routines are allowed to sleep;
"Atomic" chains can be called from an atomic context and
the callout routines are not allowed to sleep.
We decided to codify this distinction and make it part of the API. Therefore
this set of patches introduces three new, parallel APIs: one for blocking
notifiers, one for atomic notifiers, and one for "raw" notifiers (which is
really just the old API under a new name). New kinds of data structures are
used for the heads of the chains, and new routines are defined for
registration, unregistration, and calling a chain. The three APIs are
explained in include/linux/notifier.h and their implementation is in
kernel/sys.c.
With atomic and blocking chains, the implementation guarantees that the chain
links will not be corrupted and that chain callers will not get messed up by
entries being added or removed. For raw chains the implementation provides no
guarantees at all; users of this API must provide their own protections. (The
idea was that situations may come up where the assumptions of the atomic and
blocking APIs are not appropriate, so it should be possible for users to
handle these things in their own way.)
There are some limitations, which should not be too hard to live with. For
atomic/blocking chains, registration and unregistration must always be done in
a process context since the chain is protected by a mutex/rwsem. Also, a
callout routine for a non-raw chain must not try to register or unregister
entries on its own chain. (This did happen in a couple of places and the code
had to be changed to avoid it.)
Since atomic chains may be called from within an NMI handler, they cannot use
spinlocks for synchronization. Instead we use RCU. The overhead falls almost
entirely in the unregister routine, which is okay since unregistration is much
less frequent that calling a chain.
Here is the list of chains that we adjusted and their classifications. None
of them use the raw API, so for the moment it is only a placeholder.

net/ipv4/devinet.c: inetaddr_chain
It's possible that some of these classifications are wrong. If they are,
please let us know or submit a patch to fix them. Note that any chain that
gets called very frequently should be atomic, because the rwsem read-locking
used for blocking chains is very likely to incur cache misses on SMP systems.
(However, if the chain's callout routines may sleep then the chain cannot be
atomic.)

ixp2000 used to initially mark GPIO interrupts as invalid, and not
mark them valid until set_irq_type() was called, but this doesn't
work if you want to use request_irq() with the SA_TRIGGER_* flags.

configure GPIOs as inputs when set_irq_type() is called anyway, so

Function next_timer_interrupt() got broken with a recent patch
6ba1b91213 as sys_nanosleep() was moved to
hrtimer. This broke things as next_timer_interrupt() did not check hrtimer
tree for next event.
Function next_timer_interrupt() is needed with dyntick (CONFIG_NO_IDLE_HZ,
VST) implementations, as the system can be in idle when next hrtimer event
was supposed to happen. At least ARM and S390 currently use

The cmpxchg emulation on pre-ARMv5 relies on user code executed from a
kernel address. If the operation cannot complete atomically, it is
aborted from the usr_entry macro by clearing the Z flag. This clearing
of the Z flag is done whenever the user pc is above TASK_SIZE.
However this "pc >= TASK_SIZE" test cannot work in the non MMU case.
Worse: the current code will corrupt the Z flag on every entry to the

ARM entry-common.S needs to know syscall table size; in itself that would
not be a problem, but there's an additional constraint - some of the
instructions using it want a constant that would be a multiple of 4.
So we have to pad syscall table with sys_ni_syscall and that's where
the trouble begins. .rept pseudo-op wants a constant expression for
number of repetitions and subtraction of two labels (before and after
syscall table) doesn't always get simplified to constant early enough
for .rept. If labels end up in different frags, we lose. And while
the frag size is large enough (slightly below 4Kb), the syscall table
is about 1/3 of that. We used to get away with that, but the recent
changes had been enough to trigger the breakage.
Proper fix is simple: have a macro (CALL(x)) to populate the table
instead of using explicit .long x and the first time we include calls.S
have it defined to .equ NR_syscalls,NR_syscalls+1. Then we can find
the proper amount of padding on the first inclusion simply by looking
at NR_syscalls at that time. And that will be constant, no matter what.
Moreover, the same trick kills the need of having an estimate of padded
NR_syscalls - it will be calculated for free at the same time.

Patch from Nicolas Pitre
For a while we wanted to change the way syscalls were called on ARM.
Instead of encoding the syscall number in the swi instruction which
requires reading back the instruction from memory to extract that number
and polluting the data cache, it was decided that simply storing the
syscall number into r7 would be more efficient. Since this represents
an ABI change then making that change at the same time as EABI support
is the right thing to do.
It is now expected that EABI user space binaries put the syscall number
into r7 and use "swi 0" to call the kernel. Syscall register argument
are also expected to have "EABI arrangement" i.e. 64-bit arguments
should be put in a pair of registers from an even register number.
Example with long ftruncate64(unsigned int fd, loff_t length):
legacy ABI:
- put fd into r0
- put length into r1-r2
- use "swi #(0x900000 + 194)" to call the kernel
new ARM EABI:
- put fd into r0
- put length into r2-r3 (skipping over r1)
- put 194 into r7
- use "swi 0" to call the kernel
Note that it is important to use 0 for the swi argument as backward
compatibility with legacy ABI user space relies on this.
The syscall macros in asm-arm/unistd.h were also updated to support
both ABIs and implement the right call method automatically.

The ARM EABI says that the stack pointer has to be 64-bit aligned for
reasons already mentioned in patch #3101 when calling C functions.
We therefore must verify and adjust sp accordingly when taking an
exception from kernel mode since sp might not necessarily be 64-bit
aligned if the exception occurs in the middle of a kernel function.
If the exception occurs while in user mode then no sp fixup is needed as
long as sizeof(struct pt_regs) as well as any additional syscall data
stack space remain multiples of 8.

This is the core of a small SPI framework, implementing the model of a
queue of messages which complete asynchronously (with thin synchronous
wrappers on top).
- It's still less than 2KB of ".text" (ARM). If there's got to be a
mid-layer for something so simple, that's the right size budget. :)
- The guts use board-specific SPI device tables to build the driver
model tree. (Hardware probing is rarely an option.)
- This version of Kconfig includes no drivers. At this writing there
are two known master controller drivers (PXA/SSP, OMAP MicroWire)
and three protocol drivers (CS8415a, ADS7846, DataFlash) with LKML
mentions of other drivers in development.
- No userspace API. There are several implementations to compare.
Implement them like any other driver, and bind them with sysfs.
The changes from last version posted to LKML (on 11-Nov-2005) are minor,
and include:
- One bugfix (removes a FIXME), with the visible effect of making device
names be "spiB.C" where B is the bus number and C is the chipselect.
- The "caller provides DMA mappings" mechanism now has kerneldoc, for
DMA drivers that want to be fancy.
- Hey, the framework init can be subsys_init. Even though board init
logic fires earlier, at arch_init ... since the framework init is
for driver support, and the board init support uses static init.
- Various additional spec/doc clarifications based on discussions
with other folk. It adds a brief "thank you" at the end, for folk
who've helped nudge this framework into existence.
As I've said before, I think that "protocol tweaking" is the main support
that this driver framework will need to evolve.

For the ixp2000 netdev driver, we need to map in a chunk of SRAM (to
store the transmit and receive descriptors) and the scratch get/put

the descriptors.) These are the final two mappings needed for the
netdev driver and the last missing piece for the driver in mainline
to work.

This is part of a patch from Marc Singer to allow r2 to be
passed to the kernel. Marc's original comments follow:
This revised R2 (atags pointer) patch incorporates comments from Nico
Pitre and Ben Dooks. It modifies the head.S files such that the R2
value set by the bootloader is conveyed to the kernel startup code.
The kernel head.S heuristically validates the pointer. It will set R2
to zero if it believes the pointer is invalid. Presently, it requires
that the ATAGS list reside in the first 16KiB of physical RAM.
Relaxing this contraint may be both desirable as well as tricky.

Patch from Catalin Marinas
If the low interrupt latency mode is enabled for the CPU (from ARMv6
onwards), the ldm/stm instructions are no longer atomic. An ldm instruction
restoring the sp and pc registers can be interrupted immediately after sp
was updated but before the pc. If this happens, the CPU restores the base
register to the value before the ldm instruction but if the base register
is not sp, the interrupt routine will corrupt the stack and the restarted
ldm instruction will load garbage.
Note that future ARM cores might always run in the low interrupt latency
mode.

In working on adding 36-bit addressed supersection support to ioremap(),
I came to the conclusion that it would be far simpler to do so by just
splitting __ioremap() into a main external interface and adding an
__ioremap_pfn() function that takes a pfn + offset into the page that
__ioremap() can call. This way existing callers of __ioremap() won't have
to change their code and 36-bit systems will just call __ioremap_pfn()
and we will not have to deal with unsigned long long variables.
Note that __ioremap_pfn() should _NOT_ be called directly by drivers
but is reserved for use by arch_ioremap() implementations that map
32-bit resource regions into the real 36-bit address and then call
this new function.

Some ARM platforms have the ability to program the interrupt controller to
detect various interrupt edges and/or levels. For some platforms, this is
critical to setup correctly, particularly those which the setting is dependent
on the device.
Currently, ARM drivers do (eg) the following:
err = request_irq(irq, ...);
set_irq_type(irq, IRQT_RISING);
However, if the interrupt has previously been programmed to be level sensitive
(for whatever reason) then this will cause an interrupt storm.
Hence, if we combine set_irq_type() with request_irq(), we can then safely set
the type prior to unmasking the interrupt. The unfortunate problem is that in
order to support this, these flags need to be visible outside of the ARM
architecture - drivers such as smc91x need these flags and they're
cross-architecture.
Finally, the SA_TRIGGER_* flag passed to request_irq() should reflect the
property that the device would like. The IRQ controller code should do its
best to select the most appropriate supported mode.

The expansion bus on the IXP46x NPU can be configured for either 32MiB or
16MiB windows and changing the configuration causes the base address for
each chip select for each region to change. Because of this, we cannot
hardcode the physical base as we currently do. This patch checks the
expansion bus configuration registers at runtime to determine the
appropriate window size. Note that this requires that the bootloader
already configured the device sizes appropriately, but I feel that is
valid assumption to make as the bootloader must configure and access
the flash window, the output display (LCD, LEDs, etc) window, and
other expansion bus devices.

This patch adds support for a new arm/ixp4xx machine - the Iomega NAS 100d network attached storage product. The NAS100D is a consumer device containing a 266MHz Intel IXP420 processor, 16MB of flash, 64MB of RAM, a 160Gb internal IDE hard disk, and 802.11b/g wireless on an Atheros mini-PCI card.
Work on porting the latest 2.6.x kernel to this device is being done by
the NSLU2-Linux project (the same team who maintains the port to the
Linksys NSLU2 device). In particular, the majority of this patch was
authored by Alessandro Zummo, based on the work done for MACH_NSLU2
support by the NSLU2-Linux core team of developers.
MACH_NAS100D (as implemented by this patch) can be enabled in jumbo
ixp4xx kernels without any affect on the other machines supported by
that kernel.
This patch applies cleanly against 2.6.15-rc7 and should be trivial to
apply to later kernel versions. It does not depend upon any other
patches.

Patch from Lothar Wassmann
The patch makes sure, that the ouptut functions of pins are restored
before restoring the Alternat Function settings, preventing pins from
being intermediately configured for undefined or unwanted alternate
functions.
Here is the original comment:
I've got a PXA270 system that uses GPIO80 as nCS4. This system did
hang on resume. Digging into the problem I found that the processor
stalled immediately when restoring the GAFR2_U register which restored
the alternate function for GPIO80. Since the GPDR registers were
restored after the GAFR registers, the offending GPIO was configured
as input at this point.
Thus the alternate function that was in effect after restoring the
GAFR was in fact the input function "MBREQ" instead of the output
function "nCS4". The "PXA27x Processor Family Developer's Manual"
(Footnote in Table 6-1 on page 6-3) states that:
"The MBREQ alternate function must not be enabled until the PSSR[RDH]
bit field is cleared. For more details, see Table 3-15, "PSSR Bit
Definitions" on page 3-71."
There is another note in the Developer's Manual (chapter 24.4.2
"GPIO operation as Alternate Function" on page 24-4)
stating that:
"Configuring a GPIO for an alternate function that is not defined for
it causes unpredictable results."
Since some GPIOs have no input function defined, and to prevent
inadvertedly programming the MBREQ function on some pin, the GAFR
registers should be restored after the GPDR registers have been
restored.
Additional provisions have to be made when the MBREQ function is
actually required. The corresponding GAFR bits should not be restored
with the regular GAFR restore, but must be set only after the PSSR
bits have been cleared.

Single stepping an application using ptrace() fails over ARM instructions BX and BLX.
Steps to reproduce:

main.c
-----
void foo();
int main() {
foo();
return 0;
}
foo.s
-----

.globl foo
foo:
BX LR
Using ptrace() functionality, run to main(), and start singlestepping.
Singlestep over \"BX LR\" instruction won\'t transfer the control back
to main, but run the code to completion.
This problems seems to be in the function get_branch_address() in
arch/arm/kernel/ptrace.c. The function doesn\'t seem to recognize BX
and BLX instructions as branches. BX and BLX instructions can be used
to convert from ARM to Thumb mode if the target address has the low
bit set. However, they are also perfectly legal in the ARM only mode.

We must not call TLB maintainence operations with interrupts disabled,
otherwise we risk a lockup in the SMP IPI code.
This means that consistent_free() can not be called from a context with
IRQs disabled. In addition, we must not hold the lock in consistent_free
when we call flush_tlb_kernel_range(). However, we must continue to
prevent consistent_alloc() from re-using the memory region until we've
finished tearing down the mapping and dealing with the TLB.
Therefore, leave the vm_region entry in the list, but mark it inactive
before dropping the lock and starting the tear-down process. After the
mapping has been torn down, re-acquire the lock and remove the entry
from the list.

After delivering a signal (creating its stack frame) we must check for
additional pending unblocked signals before returning to userspace.
Otherwise signals may be delayed past the next syscall or reschedule.
Once that was fixed it became obvious that the ARM signal mask manipulation
was broken. It was a little bit broken before the recent SA_NODEFER
changes, and then very broken after them. We must block the requested
signals before starting the handler or the same signal can be delivered
again before the handler even gets a chance to run.

Patch from Richard Purdie
Add a driver for the extra GPIOs found on the Sharp SL-C1000 (Akita).
These GPIOs are found on a Maxim MAX7310 I2C i/o expander chip. A
generic GPIO driver for the MAX7310 was attempted but this mini
driver is a much simpler and much more effective solution avoiding
several issues and complexity the generic driver had (as discussed
on LKML).
The platform device is required so the device parent can be set
correctly which ensures the device is one of the last to suspend
and first to resume. Whilst the i2c suspend/resume calls can be
influenced, nothing guarantees this is easlier/later than the
subsystems the gpios are used on which are all independent of i2c
(sound, irda, video/backlight etc.).

This patch adds a power and battery management core driver which with
the addition of the right device files, supports the c7x0 and cxx00
series of Sharp Zaurus handhelds.
The driver is complex for several reasons. Battery charging is manually
monitored and controlled. When suspended, the device needs to
periodically partially resume, check the charging status and then
re-suspend. It does without bothering the higher linux layers as
a full resume and re-suspend is unnecessary. The code is carefully
written to avoid interrupts or calling code outside the module under
these circumstances. It also vets the various wake up sources and
monitors the device's power situation.
Hooks to limit the backlight intensity and to notify the battery
monitoring code of backlight events are connected/added as the
backlight is one of the biggest users of power on the device.

This patch adds support for the LinkSys NSLU2 running with
both big and little-endian kernels. The LinkSys NSLU2 is
a cost engineered ARM, XScale 420 based system similar to
the the Intel IXDP425 evaluation board. It uses the

While this patch applies independently of other patches
the resultant kernel requires further patches to successfully
use onboard devices, including the onboard flash. Since these
patches are independent of this one they will be submitted

A defconfig is not included here because not all of
the required drivers are actually in the kernel.

Make some changes to the NEED_RESCHED and POLLING_NRFLAG to reduce
confusion, and make their semantics rigid. Improves efficiency of
resched_task and some cpu_idle routines.
* In resched_task:
- TIF_NEED_RESCHED is only cleared with the task's runqueue lock held,
and as we hold it during resched_task, then there is no need for an
atomic test and set there. The only other time this should be set is
when the task's quantum expires, in the timer interrupt - this is
protected against because the rq lock is irq-safe.
- If TIF_NEED_RESCHED is set, then we don't need to do anything. It
won't get unset until the task get's schedule()d off.
- If we are running on the same CPU as the task we resched, then set
TIF_NEED_RESCHED and no further action is required.
- If we are running on another CPU, and TIF_POLLING_NRFLAG is *not* set
after TIF_NEED_RESCHED has been set, then we need to send an IPI.
Using these rules, we are able to remove the test and set operation in
resched_task, and make clear the previously vague semantics of
POLLING_NRFLAG.
* In idle routines:
- Enter cpu_idle with preempt disabled. When the need_resched() condition
becomes true, explicitly call schedule(). This makes things a bit clearer
(IMO), but haven't updated all architectures yet.
- Many do a test and clear of TIF_NEED_RESCHED for some reason. According
to the resched_task rules, this isn't needed (and actually breaks the
assumption that TIF_NEED_RESCHED is only cleared with the runqueue lock
held). So remove that. Generally one less locked memory op when switching
to the idle thread.
- Many idle routines clear TIF_POLLING_NRFLAG, and only set it in the inner
most polling idle loops. The above resched_task semantics allow it to be
set until before the last time need_resched() is checked before going into
a halt requiring interrupt wakeup.
Many idle routines simply never enter such a halt, and so POLLING_NRFLAG
can be always left set, completely eliminating resched IPIs when rescheduling
the idle task.
POLLING_NRFLAG width can be increased, to reduce the chance of resched IPIs.

Run idle threads with preempt disabled.
Also corrected a bugs in arm26's cpu_idle (make it actually call schedule()).
How did it ever work before?
Might fix the CPU hotplugging hang which Nigel Cunningham noted.
We think the bug hits if the idle thread is preempted after checking
need_resched() and before going to sleep, then the CPU offlined.
After calling stop_machine_run, the CPU eventually returns from preemption and
into the idle thread and goes to sleep. The CPU will continue executing
previous idle and have no chance to call play_dead.
By disabling preemption until we are ready to explicitly schedule, this bug is
fixed and the idle threads generally become more robust.

We don't want to call dump_cpu_info() from cpu_init() after boot since
it produces a lot of unnecessary noise - since cpu_init() gets called
on resume and hotplug cpu insertion events.

Patch from Richard Purdie
Update the PXA pm.c file to allow machines (such as the Sharp
Zaurus) to override the standard pm functions but reuse/wrap them
where needed.
The init call is made slightly earlier to give machine code an init
level to override them in removing any race.

Patch from Alessandro Zummo
This patch fixes AHB/PCI endianness problems when the
processor is in little-endian mode.
The patch configures the CSR register closely following the directives
in [1], paragraph 4.1, page 19.
According to the considerations in [1], page 11, while the AHB bus
supports both endian modes, on the IXP4XX it always uses big-endian.
The PCI bus is connected to the South AHB. A wrong setting in the CSR
register will thus cause a malfunctional PCI bus.
A schematic diagram of the bus interconnections on the IXP4XX
can be found in [1], page 18.
The patch has been verified to work on the NSLU2 in
both LE and BE modes.
The author is Peter Korsgaard.

Patch from Nicolas Pitre
We have an optimized sha1 routine (arch/arm/lib/sha1.S) meant to
override the generic one in lib/sha1.c.
Unfortunately lib/lib.a is listed _before_ arch/arm/lib/lib.a in the
link argument list and therefore the architecture specific lib functions
are not picked up before the generic versions.
This patch is a quick fix to change that ordering for ARM. Here's what
the kbuild maintainer had to say about it (was also CC'd on lkml):

Patch from Todd Poynor
Add platform devices for flash to Lubbock and Mainstone board files.
Once in place, the two existing mtd map drivers for the boards will be
converted to use a single pxa2xx map driver in the linux-mtd tree.
Take 4: flash_platform_data .map_name vs. .name cleaned up, resync with
merged irda patch context.

Patch from Dave Jiang
This provides support for IXP2xxx error interrupt handling. Previously there was a patch to remove this (although the original stuff was broken). Well, now the error bits are needed again. These are used extensively by the micro-engine drivers according to Deepak and also we will need it for the new EDAC code that Alan Cox is trying to push into the main kernel.
Re-submit of 3072/1, generated against git tree pulled today. AFAICT, this git tree pulled in all the ARM changes that's in arm.diff. Please let me know if there are additional changes. Thx!

CONFIG_MACH_GTWX5715 hardcodes the machine type in head-xscale.S so we
can no longer boot on any other machine types. The proper fix would be
to remove the hardcoding, but that machine is an off-the-shelf system
and most users won't have access to the bootloader. :(
