e820_hole_size() now uses the newly extracted helper function,
e820_find_active_region(), to determine the size of usable RAM in a range of
PFN's.
This was previously broken because of two reasons:
- The start and end PFN's of each e820 entry were not properly rounded
prior to excluding those entries in the range, and
- Entries smaller than a page were not properly excluded from being
accumulated.
This resulted in emulated nodes being incorrectly mapped to ranges that
were completely reserved and not candidates for being registered as
active ranges.

The logic in e820_find_active_regions() for determining the true active
regions for an e820 entry given a range of PFN's is needed for
e820_hole_size() as well.
e820_hole_size() is called from the NUMA emulation code to determine the
reserved area within an address range on a per-node basis. Its logic should
duplicate that of finding active regions in an e820 entry because these are
the only true ranges we may register anyway.

Make swsusp use memory bitmaps instead of page flags for marking 'nosave' and
free pages. This allows us to 'recycle' two page flags that can be used for
other purposes. Also, the memory needed to store the bitmaps is allocated
when necessary (ie. before the suspend) and freed after the resume which is
more reasonable.
The patch is designed to minimize the amount of changes and there are some
nice simplifications and optimizations possible on top of it. I am going to
implement them separately in the future.

This patch resolves the issue of running with numa=fake=X on kernel command
line on x86_64 machines that have big IO hole. While calculating the size
of each node now we look at the total hole size in that range.
Previously there were nodes that only had IO holes in them causing kernel
boot problems. We now use the NODE_MIN_SIZE (64MB) as the minimum size of
memory that any node must have. We reduce the number of allocated nodes if
the number of nodes specified on kernel command line results in any node
getting memory smaller than NODE_MIN_SIZE.
This change allows the extra memory to be incremented in NODE_MIN_SIZE
granule and uniformly distribute among as many nodes (called big nodes) as
possible.

dynamically allocated memory to node hash map (it is cache aligned).
This patch has the nice side effect in that it allows the hash map to grow

having small PCI space tacked onto the boot node (which is somewhere

x86_64: setup saved_max_pfn correctly
2.6.19-rc4 has broken CONFIG_CRASH_DUMP support on x86_64. It is impossible
to read out the kernel contents from /proc/vmcore because saved_max_pfn is set
to zero instead of the max_pfn value before the user map is setup.
This happens because saved_max_pfn is initialized at parse_early_param() time,
and at this time no active regions have been registered. save_max_pfn is setup
from e820_end_of_ram(), more exact find_max_pfn_with_active_regions() which
returns 0 because no regions exist.
This patch fixes this by registering before and removing after the call
to e820_end_of_ram().

Currently some code pieces assume that address returned by find_e820_area()
are page aligned. But looks like find_e820_area() had no such intention
and hence one might end up stomping over some of the data. One such case
is bootmem allocator initialization code stomped over bss.
This patch modified find_e820_area() to return page aligned address. This
might be little wasteful of memory but at the same time probably it is
easier to handle page aligned memory.

That was needed on some old systems.
But we generally trust the e820 map to be correct on 64bit systems

This patch will allow to use the real memory in there.
Or rather the only way to find out if it's still needed is to

This reverts commits 11012d419c and
40dd2d20f2, which allowed us to use the
MMIO accesses for PCI config cycles even without the area being marked
reserved in the e820 memory tables.
Those changes were needed for EFI-environment Intel macs, but broke some
newer Intel 965 boards, so for now it's better to revert to our old
2.6.17 behaviour and at least avoid introducing any new breakage.
Andi Kleen has a set of patches that work with both EFI and the broken
Intel 965 boards, which will be applied once they get wider testing.

The check for the MCFG table being reserved in the e820 map was originally
added to detect a broken BIOS in a preproduction Intel SDV. However it also
breaks the Apple x86 Macs, which can't supply this properly, but need
a working MCFG. With this patch they wouldn't use the MCFG and not work.
After some discussion I think it's best to remove the heuristic again.
It also failed on some other boxes (although it didn't cause much
problems there because old style port access for PCI config space
still works as fallback), but the preproduction SDVs can just use
pci=nommcfg. Supporting production machines properly is more
important.

Actually, we just stumbled on a different bug found in find_e820_area() in
e820.c. The following code does not handle the edge condition correctly:
while (bad_addr(&addr, size) && addr+size < ei->addr + ei->size)
;
last = addr + size;
if ( last > ei->addr + ei->size )
continue;
The second statement in the while loop needs to be a <= b so that it is the
logical negavite of the if (a > b) outside it. It needs to read:
while (bad_addr(&addr, size) && addr+size <= ei->addr + ei->size)
;
In the case that failed bad_addr was returning an address that is exactly size
bellow the end of the e820 range.

Based on analysis&patch from Robert Hentosch
Observed on a Dell PE6850 with 16GB
The problem occurs very early on, when the kernel allocates space for the
temporary memory map called bootmap. The bootmap overlaps the EBDA region.
EBDA region is not historically reserved in the e820 mapping. When the
bootmap is freed it marks the EBDA region as usable.
If you notice in setup.c there is already code to work around the EBDA
in reserve_ebda_region(), this check however occurs after the bootmap
is allocated and doesn't prevent the bootmap from using this range.

This is done by moving the local start variable to the end of each

This fixes the problem with "Averatec 6240 pcmcia_socket0: unable to
apply power", which was due to the CardBus IOMEM register region being
allocated at an address that was actually inside the RAM window that had
been reserved for video frame-buffers in an UMA setup.
The BIOS _should_ have marked that region reserved in the e820 memory
descriptor tables, but did not.
It is fixed by rounding up the default starting address of PCI memory
allocations, so that we leave a bigger gap after the final known memory
location. The amount of rounding depends on how big the unused memory
gap is that we can allocate IOMEM from.

Some nodes can have large holes on x86-64.
This fixes problems with the VM allowing too many dirty pages because it
overestimates the number of available RAM in a node. In extreme cases you
can end up with all RAM filled with dirty pages which can lead to deadlocks
and other nasty behaviour.
This patch just tells the VM about the known holes from e820. Reserved
(like the kernel text or mem_map) is still not taken into account, but that
should be only a few percent error now.
Small detail is that the flat setup uses the NUMA free_area_init_node() now
too because it offers more flexibility.

This is the x86_64 implementation of the crashkernel option. It reserves
a window of memory very early in the bootup process, so we never use
it for anything but the kernel to switch to when the running
kernel panics.
In addition to reserving this memory a resource structure is registered
so looking at /proc/iomem it is clear what happened to that memory.
ISSUES:
Is it possible to implement this in a architecture generic way?
What should be done with architectures that always use an iommu and
thus don't report their RAM memory resources in /proc/iomem?
