0ca59dd948 tracing/ftrace: don't trace on early stage of a secondary cpu boot, v3
Impact: fix a crash/hard-reboot on certain configs while enabling cpu runtime

On some archs, the boot of a secondary cpu can have an early fragile state.
On x86-64, the pda is not initialized on the first stage of a cpu boot but
it is needed to get the cpu number and the current task pointer. This data
is needed during tracing. As they were dereferenced at this stage, we got a
crash while tracing a cpu being enabled at runtime.

Some other archs like ia64 can have such kind of issue too.

Changes on v2:

We dropped the previous solution of a per-arch called function to guess the
current state of a cpu. That could slow down the tracing.

This patch removes the -pg flag on arch/x86/kernel/cpu/common.c where
the low level cpu boot functions exist, on start_secondary() and a helper
function used at this stage.

c71dd42db2 tracing: fix warnings in kernel/trace/trace_sched_switch.c

3d9101e925 trace: fix task state printout
Impact: fix occasionally incorrect trace output

The tracing code has interesting varieties of printing out task state.

Unfortunalely only one of the instances is correct as it copies the
code from sched.c:sched_show_task(). The others are plain wrong as
they treatthe bitfield as an integer offset into the character
array. Also the size check of the character array is wrong as it
includes the trailing \0.

Use a common state decoder inline which does the Right Thing.

ea3a6d6d60 ftrace: add not to regex on filtering functions
Impact: enhancement

Ingo Molnar has asked about a way to remove items from the filter
lists. Currently, you can only add or replace items. The way
items are added to the list is through opening one of the list
files (set_ftrace_filter or set_ftrace_notrace) via append.
If the file is opened for truncate, the list is cleared.

  echo spin_lock > /debug/tracing/set_ftrace_filter

The above will replace the list with only spin_lock

  echo spin_lock >> /debug/tracing/set_ftrace_filter

The above will add spin_lock to the list.

Now this patch adds:

  echo '!spin_lock' >> /debug/tracing/set_ftrace_filter

This will remove spin_lock from the list.

The limited glob features of these lists also can be notted.

  echo '!spin_*' >> /debug/tracing/set_ftrace_filter

This will remove all functions that start with 'spin_'

Note:

  echo '!spin_*' > /debug/tracing/set_ftrace_filter

will simply clear out the list (notice the '>' instead of '>>')

f38f1d2aa5 trace: add a way to enable or disable the stack tracer
Impact: enhancement to stack tracer

The stack tracer currently is either on when configured in or
off when it is not. It can not be disabled when it is configured on.
(besides disabling the function tracer that it uses)

This patch adds a way to enable or disable the stack tracer at
run time. It defaults off on bootup, but a kernel parameter 'stacktrace'
has been added to enable it on bootup.

A new sysctl has been added "kernel.stack_tracer_enabled" to let
the user enable or disable the stack tracer at run time.

24c0996a6b USB: skip Set-Interface(0) if already in altsetting 0
When a driver unbinds from an interface, usbcore always sends a
Set-Interface request to reinstall altsetting 0. Unforunately, quite

To avoid such problems, this patch (as1180) arranges to send the
Set-Interface request only when the interface is not already in

The issue was the beqlr returns early but we haven't reenabled interrupts.

66896a85cf tracing/ftrace: add the printk-msg-only option
Impact: display ftrace_printk messages "as is"

By default, ftrace_printk() messages find their output with some other
informations like pid, caller, ...
Sometimes a developer just want to have the ftrace_printk left "as is", without
other information.

This is done by providing a default-off option called printk-msg-only.
To enable it, just do `echo printk-msg-only > /debugfs/tracing/trace_options`

Before the patch:

           <...>-2739 [000] 145.692153: __might_sleep: I'm an ftrace_printk msg in __might_sleep
           <...>-2739 [000] 145.692155: __might_sleep: I'm another ftrace_printk msg in __might_sleep

After the patch and the printk-msg-only option enabled:

I'm an ftrace_printk msg in __might_sleep
I'm another ftrace_printk msg in __might_sleep

2c2d7329d8 tracing/ftrace: use preempt_enable_no_resched_notrace in ring_buffer_time_stamp()
Impact: prevent a trace recursion

After some tests with function graph tracer under x86-32, I saw some recursions
caused by ring_buffer_time_stamp() that calls preempt_enable_no_notrace() which
calls preempt_schedule() which is traced itself.

This patch re-enables preemption without rescheduling.

83099bc647 ocfs2: Always update xattr search when creating bucket.
When we create xattr bucket during the process of xattr set, we always
need to update the ocfs2_xattr_search since even if the bucket size is
the same as block size, the offset will change because of the removal
of the ocfs2_xattr_block header.

be44f01e8a i2c-s3c2410: fix check for being in suspend.
As noted by Julia Lawall <julia@diku.dk>, we can never
trigger the check for being in suspend due to the result
of !readl(i2c->regs + S3C2410_IICCON) & S3C2410_IICCON_IRQEN
always being 0.

Add suspend/resume hooks to stop i2c transactions happening
until the driver has been resumed.

a804644a1a i2c-cpm: Detect and report NAK right away instead of timing out
Make the driver report an ENXIO error immediately upon NAK instead of
waiting for another interrupt and getting a timeout.

When reading from a device that is not present or declines to respond
to, e.g., a non-existent register address, CPM immediately reports a
NAK condition in the TxBD, but the driver kept waiting until a timeout,
which takes 1 second and causes an ugly console error message.
