- Implement shadow fading when using the Orthogonal shadow mode
(like in `master`).
This allows customizing the distance at which directional shadows
start to fade away. Shadow fading will also always start at the same
distance now, regardless of the current shadow mode in use.
This is useful for enclosed levels to prevent shadows from fading
at all with a well-tuned maximum distance.
The default fade start value (0.8) results in fading happening later
in the distance compared to the previous behavior, where fading started
from the last shadow split distance (0.6 in PSSM 4 Splits and
0.1 in PSSM 2 Splits).
As many open source projects have started doing it, we're removing the
current year from the copyright notice, so that we don't need to bump
it every year.
It seems like only the first year of publication is technically
relevant for copyright notices, and even that seems to be something
that many companies stopped listing altogether (in a version controlled
codebase, the commits are a much better source of date of publication
than a hardcoded copyright statement).
We also now list Godot Engine contributors first as we're collectively
the current maintainers of the project, and we clarify that the
"exclusive" copyright of the co-founders covers the timespan before
opensourcing (their further contributions are included as part of Godot
Engine contributors).
Also fixed "cf." Frenchism - it's meant as "refer to / see".
Backported from #70885.
Some split distance properties are unused depending on the
current shadow mode. Also, Blend Splits and Bias Split Scale can
only be used if the shadow mode is PSSM 2 Splits or PSSM 4 Splits.
The icon was present in `editor/icons/`, but it was never implemented
in the editor gizmos code.
This also removes some unused gizmo drawing code (overridden methods
that are no longer called anywhere).
- Specular can now be set above 1.0.
- Some properties now allow more precise values.
- The Bake Mode property hint was changed to be more descriptive.
- The maximum shadow bias values were adjusted to follow the property
hints in `master`.
Happy new year to the wonderful Godot community!
2020 has been a tough year for most of us personally, but a good year for
Godot development nonetheless with a huge amount of work done towards Godot
4.0 and great improvements backported to the long-lived 3.2 branch.
We've had close to 400 contributors to engine code this year, authoring near
7,000 commit! (And that's only for the `master` branch and for the engine code,
there's a lot more when counting docs, demos and other first-party repos.)
Here's to a great year 2021 for all Godot users 🎆
(cherry picked from commit b5334d14f7)
Don't apply lighting to objects when they have a lightmap texture and
the light is set to BAKE_ALL. This prevents applying the same direct
light twice on the same object and makes setting up scenes with mixed
lighting much easier.
Happy new year to the wonderful Godot community!
We're starting a new decade with a well-established, non-profit, free
and open source game engine, and tons of further improvements in the
pipeline from hundreds of contributors.
Godot will keep getting better, and we're looking forward to all the
games that the community will keep developing and releasing with it.
With the default camera node settings, this makes directional shadows
look consistent between the editor and the running project.
The original issue occurs because the editor camera defaults to a
Z-far value of 500, whereas the Camera node defaults to a Z-far
value of 100. Since the directional shadow maximum distance is clamped
to the Z-far value, it caused the running project's effective shadow
distance to be lower compared to the editor (100 instead of 200).
This partially addresses #13575.
The bake mode property of lights previously didn't affect GI probes.
This change makes the GI probe ignore lights that have their bake mode
set to disabled.
It seems to stay compatible with formatting done by clang-format 6.0 and 7.0,
so contributors can keep using those versions for now (they will not undo those
changes).

Some of those are bugs and need further work, they are identified with
`// FIXME` comments.
This allows more consistency in the manner we include core headers,
where previously there would be a mix of absolute, relative and
include path-dependent includes.
Using `misc/scripts/fix_headers.py` on all Godot files.
Some missing header guards were added, and the header inclusion order
was fixed in the Bullet module.
-Fixes to unwrapper (remove degenerates), makes Thekla not crash
-Added optional cancel button in EditorProgress
-Added function to force processing of events (needed for cancel button)
