SConstruct change also makes it possible to outright delete the `editor`
folder in a `tools=no` build, which we use in CI to ensure no invalid
cross-dependencies are added.

This now allows creating scripting languages from GDExtension, with the same ease as if it was a module. It replaces the old PluginScript from Godot 3.x.
Warning: GodotCPP will need to be updated to support this (it may be a bit of work as ScriptInstance needs to be created over there again).
Adds DEV_ASSERTS that will halt at runtime if the BVH is misused with invalid IDs, and adds ERR_FAIL macros to prevent calling with invalid IDs.
Any such misuse is a bug in the physics, but this should flag any errors quickly.
3 options are available:
- Light and Sky (default)
- Light Only (new)
- Sky Only (equivalent to `use_in_sky_only = true`)

This allows a 3D Physics server created entirely from GDExtension. Once it works, the idea is to port the 2D one to it.
When given roughness is lower than 0.01, d value in original code will
be zero. This can make last return value as NAN because of
divide-by-zero. This is well addressed in issue #56373.
Modified code is referenced on D_GGX function of google/filament
(https://github.com/google/filament/blob/main/shaders/src/brdf.fs#L54-L79)

* Previous "virtual" classes (which can't be instantiated) are not corretly named "abstract".
* Added a new "virtual" category for classes, they can't be instantiated from the editor, but can be inherited from script and extensions.

Most classes that make sense have been converted. Missing:

which will go in a separate PR due to the complexity involved.
This has been superseded by GDExtension so this code is no longer useful
nor usable.
There's still some GDNative-related stuff in platform export code which
needs to be adapted for GDExtension (e.g. to include GDExtension libraries
in exports).

This is the first step into creating a proper uniform set cache system to simplify large parts of the codebase.
- Add 2D and 3D in timestamp names when needed to avoid ambiguity.
- Use present tense in all render timestamp names.
- Add a space after ">" (begin) and "<" (end) symbols.
- Remove redundant "End" in render timestamp names (indicated by "<").
This can be used to fade lights and their shadows in the distance,
similar to Decal nodes. This can bring significant performance
improvements, especially for lights with shadows enabled and when
using higher-than-default shadow quality settings.
While lights can be smoothly faded out over distance, shadows are
currently "all or nothing" since per-light shadow color is no longer
customizable in the Vulkan renderer. This may result in noticeable
pop-in when leaving the shadow cutoff distance, but depending on the
scene, it may not always be that noticeable.
This allows for the extension of AudioStream where you can call
`instance_plackback` on child AudioStream instances within gdscript,
much like the implementation of some child classes in C++.
See `AudioStreamRandomPitch` for an example of how this can be used.
* Adds optional vec4 USERDATA1 .. USERDATA6 to particles, allowing to store custom data.
* This data is allocated on demand, so shaders that do not use it do not cost more.
This provides a significant speedup for a small quality loss.
The quality loss is generally more noticeable during a project's
early stages of development (e.g. in level blockouts)
than it is in a finished project.
Forcing draw during debug break is now handled by ServersDebugger, and
only happens when the proper message is sent from the EditorDebugger
("servers:draw").
In a similar way, briging the window in foreground is now also handled
by ServersDebugger upon receiving "servers:foreground" which is sent by
the EditorDebugger when resuming from a break ("continue").
- Enable Read Sky Light to get proper outdoors lighting out of the box.
- Set bounce feedback to 0.5 by default to get a better quality result.
- Higher values may cause infinite feedback with bright surfaces.
- Increase the number of frames to converge to improve quality
at the cost of latency. Most scenes are fairly static after all.
- Use 75% Y scale by default as most scenes are not highly vertical.
- Reorder the Y scale enum to go from the lowest Y scale to the highest.
Also rename the "Disabled" setting to "100%" for clarity.
This improves rendering performance noticeably, especially when the
camera moves fast.
On a medium-sized test scene on a GTX 1080 in 2560×1440, going
from 6 to cascades saves 0.5 ms of frame time while looking visually
identical (as most of the scene fits within the 4 cascades).
16-bit shadow atlases are already the default in the project settings,
but low-level methods used 24-bit shadows by default.
This makes low-level methods more consistent with the default project
settings to avoid accidental performance issues when users change
the shadow size at run-time.
`smoothstep()` avoids the sudden transparency jump when entering or
leaving an object's alpha fade margin distance. This in turn helps
make opacity transitions less noticeable to the player, as it's
less likely to catch the player's eye.
* Erase shadow owner *before* setting it to RID().
* Add default texture in shadow atlas debug view to avoid error spam when no atlas is present.
* Fix typo.
A common source of errors is to call functions (such as round()) expecting them to work in place, but them actually being designed only to return the processed value. Not using the return value in this case in indicative of a bug, and can be flagged as a warning by using the [[nodiscard]] attribute.

This provides more flexibility between performance and quality
adjustments, especially when using SDFGI for small-scale levels
(which can be useful for procedurally generated scenes).
On the only platform where PVRTC is supported (iOS),
ETC2 generally supersedes PVRTC in every possible way. The increased
memory usage is not really a problem thanks to modern iOS' devices
processing power being higher than its Android counterparts.

Applying overlay materials into multi-surface meshes currently
requires adding a next pass material to all the surfaces, which
might be cumbersome when the material is to be applied to a range
of different geometries. This also makes it not trivial to use
AnimationPlayer to control the material in case of visual effects.
The material_override property is not an option as it works
replacing the active material for the surfaces, not adding a new pass.
This commit adds the material_overlay property to GeometryInstance3D
(and therefore MeshInstance3D), having the same reach as
material_override (that is, all surfaces) but adding a new material
pass on top of the active materials, instead of replacing them.
Each file in Godot has had multiple contributors who co-authored it over the
years, and the information of who was the original person to create that file
is not very relevant, especially when used so inconsistently.
`git blame` is a much better way to know who initially authored or later
modified a given chunk of code, and most IDEs now have good integration to
show this information.
Some assets are loaded based on OS/server feature detection, namely
textures (but potentially others).
The ResourceImporter will fail to load a texture if the OS reports not
supporting it. The OS, in turn, checks texture format support via the
RenderingServer.
This commit makes the dummy rasterizer report known texture formats as
supported (although unused), so that scenes can be correctly loaded when
they include references to imported textures.
Always build with the GUI subsystem.
Redirect stdout and stderr output to the parent process console.
Use CreateProcessW for blocking `execute` calls with piped stdout and stderr (prevent console windows for popping up when used with the GUI subsystem build, and have more consistent behavior with `create_process`).
Add `open_console` argument to the `execute` and `create_process` to open a new console window.
Remove `interface/editor/hide_console_window` editor setting.
Remove `Toggle System Console` menu option.
Remove `set_console_visible` and `is_console_visible` functions.
For 2D:
Raycast CCD now works the same as in 3D, it changes the body's velocity
to place it at the impact position instead of generating a contact point
that causes a wrong push back.
For both 2D and 3D:
The raycast CCD process reads and modifies body velocities, so it needs
to be moved to pre_solve() instead of setup() to be processed linearly
on the main thread, otherwise multithreading can cause some CCD results
to be randomly lost when multiple collisions occur.
Makes the API for forces and impulses more flexible, easier to
understand and harmonized between 2D and 3D.
Rigid bodies now have 3 sets of methods for forces and impulses:
-apply_impulse() for impulses (one-shot and time independent)
-apply_force() for forces (time dependent) applied for the current step
-add_constant_force() for forces that keeps being applied each step
Also updated the documentation to clarify the different methods and
parameters in rigid body nodes, body direct state and physics servers.
This can be used to distinguish between integrated, dedicated, virtual
and software-emulated GPUs. This in turn can be used to automatically
adjust graphics settings, or warn users about features that may run
slowly on their hardware.
Margin needs to have a high enough value for test body motion to work
properly (separate using the margin, move without then gather rest info
with the margin again).
Fixes issues with test motion returning no collision in some cases with
margin equal to 0.
This reduces visible banding in indirect lighting and reflections.
Sharp reflections now match more closely the original scene.
The downside of this change is that clipping may appear in reflections
in extremely bright scenes, but this should not be a concern in most
scenes.
Helps with discovery and setup of physics solver settings, in a specific
project settings section for both 2D and 3D.
Other changes for cleanup:
-Removed unused space parameters in 3D

The message about SpatialMaterial conversion was turned into a warning,
as it can potentially interfere with porting projects from Godot 3.x
(if there's a bug in the conversion code).
Clarified space parameters for contacts and added missing ones.
List of changes:
-Add contact bias to space parameters
-Add solver iterations to space parameters, instead of a specific
physics server function
-Renamed BODY_MAX_ALLOWED_PENETRATION to CONTACT_MAX_ALLOWED_PENETRATION
to make it consistent with other contact parameters
Changed the algorithm for solving contacts to keep previous contacts as
long as they are under the max separation threshold to keep contact
impulses more consistent and contacts more stable.
Also made 2D consistent with 3D and changed some default parameters:
-Contact bias is now 0.8 instead of 0.3 to avoid springy contacts
-Solver iterations are 16 instead of 8 by default for better stability
Performance considerations:
Tested with stress tests that include lots of contacts from overlapping
bodies.
3D: There's no measurable difference in performance.
2D: Performance is a bit lower (close to 10% slower in extreme cases)
The benefit for 2D physics to be much more stable outweighs the slight
decrease in performance, and this could be alleviated by changing the
algorithm to use jacobians for contact solving to help with cache
efficiency and memory allocations.
We prefer to prevent using chained assignment (`T a = b = c = T();`) as this
can lead to confusing code and subtle bugs.
According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assignment_operator_(C%2B%2B), C++
allows any arbitrary return type, so this is standard compliant.
This could be re-assessed if/when we have an actual need for a behavior more
akin to that of the C++ STL, for now this PR simply changes a handful of
cases which were inconsistent with the rest of the codebase (`void` return
type was already the most common case prior to this commit).
In scenes that have little to no overdraw, disabling the depth prepass
can give a small performance boost. Nonetheless, in most other scenarios,
the depth prepass should be left enabled as it improves performance
significantly.
Bounce calculation now uses the previous frame's velocity, so it's
consistent with the actual motion of the bodies involved and not the
yet-to-be-applied forces.
When bounce is 1, using the current velocity was causing the new forces
(including gravity) to be taken into account, which lead to the bounce
velocity to be higher than the falling velocity at the moment of impact,
adding more and more energy over time.
Regression fix, gravity was accumulated between frames after some
changes around area gravity calculation.
Also got rid of unused member and method in soft body class.
Replaced the previous implementation for backface collision handling (in
test_axis function from SAT algorithm) with much simpler logic in the
collision generation phase with face shapes, in order to get rid of
wrong contacts when backface collision is disabled.
Now it just ignores the generated collision if the contact normal is
against the face normal, with a threshold to keep edge contacts.
Added a special case for soft bodies to invert the collision instead of
ignoring it, because for now it's the best solution to avoid soft bodies
to go through concave shapes (they use small spheres). This might be
replaced with a better algorithm for soft bodies later.
Updating the broadphase to find new collision pairs was done after
checking for collision islands, so it was working in most cases due to
the pairing margin used in the BVH, but in case of teleported objects
the narrowphase collision could be skipped.
Now it's done before checking for collision islands, so we can ensure
that broadphase pairing has been done at the same time as objects are
marked as moved so their collision can be checked properly.
This issue didn't happen in the Octree/HashGrid because they do nothing
on update and trigger pairs directly when objects move instead.
In all physics servers, body_get_direct_state() now silently returns
nullptr when the body has been already freed or is removed from space,
so the client code can detect this state and invalidate the body rid.
In 2D, there is no change in behavior (just no more errors).
In 3D, the Bullet server returned a valid direct body state when the
body was removed from the physics space, but in this case it didn't
make sense to use the information from the body state.
Center of mass in body's local space is more useful than the transformed
one in some cases, like drawing its position for debug.
It's especially useful to get the generated local center of mass when
in auto mode (by default).
Physics Server BODY_PARAM_CENTER_OF_MASS:
Now always returns the local center of mass, instead of setting a local
center of mass and getting a transformed one.
This causes compatibility breaking, but it makes more sense for the
parameter to be consistent between getter and setter.
Direct Body State:
There are now two properties, because both of them can be useful in
different situations.
center_of_mass: relative position in global coordinates (same as before)
center_of_mass_local: position in local coordinates
On a GeForce GTX 1080 in 2002×1447 resolution, decreasing VoxelGI quality
from High to Low quality saves 1.2 ms of GPU time in a medium-sized
test scene. This only results in a minor drop in quality.
Same as what is already done for shape queries, applied to point and ray
queries. Easier to document and more flexible to add more parameters.
Also expose intersect_point method to script in 3D.
Remove intersect_point_on_canvas in 2D, replaced with a parameter.
- Rename OpenGL to GLES3 in the source code per community feedback.
- The renderer is still exposed as "OpenGL 3" to the user.
- Hide renderer selection dropdown until OpenGL support is more mature.
- The renderer can still be changed in the Project Settings or using
the `--rendering-driver opengl` command line argument.
- Remove commented out exporter code.
- Remove some OpenGL/DisplayServer-related debugging prints.
First implementation with Linux display manager.
- Add single-threaded mode for EditorResourcePreview (needed for OpenGL).

Sets `AlignOperands` to `DontAlign`.
`clang-format` developers seem to mostly care about space-based indentation and
every other version of clang-format breaks the bad mismatch of tabs and spaces
that it seems to use for operand alignment. So it's better without, so that it
respects our two-tabs `ContinuationIndentWidth`.
Damping values are now non-negative.
Add new properties linear_damp_mode and angular_damp_mode to set the way
RigidDynamicBody and PhysicalBone (2D & 3D) use damping values.
It can now be Combine (default) to add to the default/areas, or Replace
to override the value completely (current behavior).
* Made the Basis euler orders indexed via enum.
* Node3D has a new rotation_order property to choose Euler rotation order.
* Node3D has also a rotation_mode property to choose between Euler, Quaternion and Basis
Exposing these modes as well as the order makes Godot a lot friendlier for animators, which can choose the best way to interpolate rotations.
The new *Basis* mode makes the (exposed) transform property obsolete, so it was removed (can still be accessed by code of course).
Fixes the SHADOW_CASTING_SETTING_OFF setting in
GeometryInstance3D and the "shadows_disabled" render
mode in spatial materials, which were not working
before.
The built-in ALPHA in spatial shaders comes pre-set with a per-instance
transparency value. Multiply by it if you want to keep it.
The transparency value of any given GeometryInstance3D is affected by:
- Its new "transparency" property.
- Its own visiblity range when the new "visibility_range_fade_mode"
property is set to "Self".
- Its parent visibility range when the parent's fade mode is
set to "Dependencies".
The "Self" mode will fade-out the instance when reaching the visibility
range limits, while the "Dependencies" mode will fade-in its
dependencies.
Per-instance transparency is only implemented in the forward clustered
renderer, support for mobile should be added in the future.

Soft shadows are relatively expensive to filter. However, with the
default blur factors, it's not needed to use too many samples
(unless PCSS-like shadows are used with a large size). Textures
and screen-space antialiasing can also be used to mask the noise
pattern effectively.
On a GeForce GTX 1080, going from Medium to Low for both shadow types
saves 0.2-0.4 ms of GPU time per frame in 2560×1440 resolution.
This can translate to significantly higher savings on lower-end GPUs.
Given how the shader works, this improves rendering performance
even if lights with shadows are never used.
Should be changing the local center of mass, which is then transformed
into `center_of_mass`.
It was causing the center of mass to be always in (0,0) by default with
multiple shapes.
Changing the collision layer of a sleeping body was not triggering area
updates correctly.
Bodies need to be active for collision to be checked against already
overlapping bodies and areas.
Neighbors need to be activated too in order to handle the case where a
static body is modified (it can't be activated directly but paired
bodies need to check their collision again).
In 3D, moved the call to wakeup() from the physics server to
GodotBody3D::_shapes_changed to make it consistent with 2D and also
handle the case where shapes are modified (_shapes_changed is called in
both this case and collision layer changes).
This can be used to improve 3D shadow rendering quality at little
performance cost. Unlike the existing Hard setting which is limited
to variable shadow blur only, it works with both fixed blur and
variable blur.
Proper logic for changing physics state when disabled and disabled mode
is changed (it was unnecessarily making calls to re-initialize physics).
Extra error handling in soft body implementations to avoid crashes with
invalid mesh.
Same logic as what was done in 3D, applied to 2D center of mass.
Also did some minor cleanup in 3D and fixed center of mass transform
during the first frame after teleporting a dynamic body.
This allows for finer control over 3D rendering resolution.
Supersampling can also be performed by setting a 3D rendering
resolution above 1.0, which is useful for offline rendering or
for very high-end GPUs.
This property was intended to provide a way to have SSAO or VoxelGI
ambient occlusion with a color other than black. However, it was
dropped during the Vulkan renderer development due to the performance
overhead it caused when the feature wasn't used.
Added a parameter in test_body_motion to exclude attached objects from
collision, used to avoid collision with all TileMap tiles with moving
platform motion instead of just the one tile the character touches.
Same changes made in 3D for consistency, and handling potential similar
cases.
-Physics servers test body motion use a class to hold parameters instead
of multiple arguments to make it more readable and flexible since there
are many options
-Improved documentation for test body motion and kinematic collision
-Removed read-only properties for body motion results (not handled in
scripts, so they should be get_ methods only instead)

Shape metadata was only used to get tile information when colliding with
tilemaps. It's not needed anymore since there's an API in tilemap using
body ids instead.
Allows 2D character controller to work without applying gravity when
touching the ground (also more safely in 3D), and collision detection
is more flexible with different safe margin values.
Character body motion changes in 2D and 3D:
-Recovery only for depth > min contact depth to help with collision
detection consistency (rest info could be lost if recovery was too much)
-Adaptive min contact depth (based on margin) instead of space parameter
Extra CharacterBody changes:
-2D: apply changes made in 3D for stop on slope and floor snap that help
fixing some jittering cases
-3D: fix minor inconsistencies in stop on slope and floor snap logic
* Fixed LODs for shadow meshes.
* Added a merging step before simplification. This helps with tesselated
meshes that were previously left untouched. The angle difference at
wich edges ar considered "hard" can be tweaked as an import setting.
* LODs will now start with the highest decimation possible and keep
doubling (approximately) the number of triangles from there. This
makes sure that very low triangle counts are included when possible.
* Given more weight to normal preservation.
* Modified MeshOptimizer to report distance-based error instead of
including attributes in the reported metrics.
* Added attribute transference between the original mesh and the
various LODs. Right now only normals are taken into account,
but it could be expanded to other attributes in the future.
RigidDynamicBody modes are replaced with several properties to make their
usage clearer:
-lock_rotation: disable body's rotation (instead of MODE_LOCKED)
-freeze: no gravity or forces (instead of MODE_STATIC and MODE_KINEMATIC)
-freeze_mode: Static (can be only teleported) or Kinematic (can be animated)
Also renamed MODE_DYNAMIC_LOCKED to MODE_DYNAMIC_LINEAR in the physics
servers.
Browsers doesn't really like forcing the mix rate, e.g. Firefox does not
allow input (microphone) if the mix rate is not the default one, Chrom*
will exhibit worse performances, etc.
Add glTF2 uri decode for paths.
Add vertex custom apis.

Move the RPCConfig and enums (TransferMode, RPCMode) to a separate
file (multiplayer.h), and bind them to the global namespace.
Move the RPC handling code to its own class (RPCManager).

Properly implemented constant velocity for kinematic bodies in godot
physics servers (induced velocity without actually moving).
Also updated description for the different physics nodes to make their

The default mask for queries was 0, 0x7FFFFFFF or 0xFFFFFFFF depending
on the cases.
Now always using 0xFFFFFFFF (in the form of UINT32_MAX to make it clear)
in order to use all layers by default.
Use a C++ callback instead of Callable for synchronizing physics nodes' state with physics servers.
Remove usage of PhysicsDirectBodyState in physics nodes when not
necessary.
Store PhysicsDirectBodyState for bodies individually instead of a
singleton to avoid issues when accessing direct body state for multiple
bodies.
PhysicsDirectBodyState is initialized only when needed, so it doesn't
have to be created when using the physics server directly.
Move PhysicsDirectBodyState2D and PhysicsDirectBodyState3D to separate

In the `master` branch, 16× MSAA caused the entire system to freeze
on NVIDIA GPUs. This is likely caused by graphics drivers not actually
implementing 16× MSAA, but combining 8× MSAA with 2× SSAA instead.
On top of that, modern shader complexity makes 16× MSAA very difficult
to use while keeping a good framerate. 8× MSAA is hard enough to use
as it is.
Make separation ray shapes work properly in move_and_slide, wihtout the
specific code in CharacterBody like before.
Now most of the logic is handled inside the physics server. The only
thing that's needed is to use ray shapes only for recovery and ignore
them when performing the motion itself (unless we're snapping or slips
on slope is on).
One-way collision is disabled for both rigid bodies and character
bodies.
Kinematic margin is now applied to ray shapes to help getting consistent
results in slopes and flat surfaces.
Convex shapes don't return inverted normals when a segment test starts
inside (raycasting will be made consistent in a separate patch).
Ray shapes also discard contacts when fully contained inside a shape
and when the contact direction is inverted, so the behavior is
consistent with all shape types. Now they always separate only when
intersecting the top of a shape (for downward rays).
Removing the + 1 in point gravity formula when using distance scale to
make it more accurate for standard gravitation.
Fixes precession in orbits for games using gravitation.
Also moved gravity calculation to area to use it for both rigid bodies
and soft bodies in 3D (same change in 2D for consistency).

The "Use Parent Material" option now does something when enabled on a CanvasItem. As before, it's not just limited to a node's direct parent but can move up the tree until it finds a material.
Also corrected a typo in rendering_device_vulkan.h that didn't merit its own commit.

- Rename few methods/property and group them in the editor when it's possible
- Make MotionResult API consistency with KinematicCollision

This new approach ensures mobile shaders are smaller and more efficient, but relies on more pipeline versions compiled on demand.
As a result, random stalls can ocur like in Godot 3.x. These will be solved by using background compilation and fallbacks eventually (but needs to be tested first).

The project setting wasn't being used anywhere.
This also tweaks the property hints to denote that these properties
are only effective after a restart.

Infinite inertia:
Not needed anymore, since it's now possible to set one-directional
collision layers in order for characters to ignore rigid bodies, while
rigid bodies still collide with characters.
Ray shapes:
They were introduced as a work around to allow constant speed on slopes,
which is now possible with the new property in CharacterBody instead.
Same thing that was already done in 2D, applies moving platform motion
by using a call to move_and_collide that excludes the platform itself,
instead of making it part of the body motion.
Helps with handling walls and slopes correctly when the character walks
on the moving platform.
Also made some minor adjustments to the 2D version and documentation.

When synchronizing CharacterBody motion with moving the platform using
direct body state, only the linear velocity was taken into account.
This change exposes velocity at local point in direct body state and
uses it in move_and_slide to get the proper velocity that includes
rotations.
The Transform::xform and xform_inv are made safe for Planes when using non-uniform scaling.
Optimization of calling sites to prevent loss of performance from the changes to xform(Plane).
Since OpenGL will not be available in Godot 4.0, this exposes a
choice between Vulkan clustered and Vulkan mobile in the project manager.
Despite the name, Vulkan mobile has many benefits on desktop platforms.
It provides better performance on simple scenes, and ensures that you
won't accidentally use unsupported features while testing your project
on desktop platforms.
The Vulkan backend setting was made into a "basic" setting so that
it can be changed without having to enable the Advanced Settings toggle.
This also improves list formatting to use bullet points and tweaks
the property hint to be more descriptive.
* Simplified code a lot, bias based on normalized cascade size.
* Lets scale cascades, max distance, etc. without creating acne.
* Fixed normal biasing in directional shadows.
I removed normal biasing in both omni and spot shadows, since the technique can't be easily implemented there.
Will need to be replaced by something else.
* Added an extra stage before compiling shader, which is generating a binary blob.
* On Vulkan, this allows caching the SPIRV reflection information, which is expensive to parse.
* On other (future) RenderingDevices, it allows caching converted binary data, such as DXIL or MSL.
This PR makes the shader cache include the reflection information, hence editor startup times are significantly improved.
I tested this well and it appears to work, and I added a lot of consistency checks, but because it includes writing and reading binary information, rare bugs may pop up, so be aware.
There was not much of a choice for storing the reflection information, given shaders can be a lot, take a lot of space and take time to parse.

The `Math_INF` and `Math_NAN` defines were just aliases for those
constants, so we might as well use them directly.
Some portions of the code were already using `INFINITY` directly.
* Shadow quality settings now specialization constant.
* Decal and light projector filters can be set.
* Changing those settings forces re-creation of the pipelines.
These changes should help improve performance related to shadow mapping, and allows improving performance by sacrificing decal and light projector quality.
Check for each body individually if it collides with the other one or
ignores it.
When a body is being ignored, the other body's mass is considered
infinite when applying impulses to avoid extra overlapping.
* Added a new macro SNAME() that constructs and caches a local stringname.
* Subsequent usages use the cached version.
* Since these use a global static variable, a second refcounter of static usages need to be kept for cleanup time.

The Optimized shadow depth range was removed in late 2020 in favor
of the Stable shadow depth range, but it still had a (broken) property
that allowed to enable it.
More accurate unsafe motion calculation
* Safe and unsafe motion are calculated by dichotomy with a limited
number of steps. It's good for performance, but on long motions that
either collide near the beginning or near the end, the result can be
very imprecise.
* Now a factor 0.25 or 0.75 is used to converge faster when this case
happens, which allows longer motions to get more accurate collision
detection.
* Makes snap collision more precise, and helps with cases where diagonal collision on the border of a platform can lead to the character being stuck.
Additional improvements to move_and_slide:
* Handle slide canceling in move_and_collide with 0 velocity instead of
not applying it.
* Better handling of snap with custom logic to cancel sliding.
* Remove small jittering when using stop on slope, by canceling the
motion completely when the resulting motion is less than margin instead
of always projecting to the up direction (in both body motion and snap).

In 3D, disabled shapes are now not added to the broadphase anymore.
Since they are removed right away when disabled, no need to check for

Remove the same unnecessary checks as in 3D.
Overall harmonized API for disabled shapes in the physics servers and
removed duplicate method.

This commit adds the following properties to GeometryInstance3D: `visibility_range_begin`,
`visibility_range_begin_margin`, `visibility_range_end`, `visibility_range_end_margin`.
Together they define a range in which the GeometryInstance3D will be visible from the camera,
taking hysteresis into account for state changes. A begin or end value of 0 will be ignored,
so the visibility range can be open-ended in both directions.
This commit also adds the `visibility_parent` property to 'Node3D'.
Which defines the visibility parents of the node and its subtree (until
another parent is defined).
Visual instances with a visibility parent will only be visible when the parent, and all of its
ancestors recursively, are hidden because they are closer to the camera than their respective
`visibility_range_begin` thresholds.
Combining visibility ranges and visibility parents users can set-up a quick HLOD system
that shows high detail meshes when close (i.e buildings, trees) and merged low detail meshes
for far away groups (i.e. cities, woods).
* RingBuffer had no reason to be in this context
* A single buffer is used that can grow as much as the game needs.
This should make thread loading entirely reliable.

As godot adds more ways to provide GI (as an example, SDFGI in 4.0), the different techniques (which have different pros/cons) need to be properly named to avoid confusion.

It turns out the calculation of the bounding rect for canvas items has a nasty bug. When a transform is applied (especially in a custom draw), in the renderer this extra matrix is applied to all later commands in the canvas item. However in the calculation of the bound, the transform is only applied to the first command following the transform.
This PR fixes this inconsistency.
- Tweak the setting property hint to be more informative.
- Make the setting a "basic" setting so it appears when Advanced Settings
is disabled.
- Remove redundant orientation setting in the iOS export preset.
The project setting is now used (like on Android).
Projects upgrading from a previous version will have to set the
screen orientation again in the Project Settings if it wasn't set
to the default value ("landscape").
The code is based on the current version of thirdparty/vhacd and modified to use Godot's types and code style.

Includes changes in Rect2, Vector2, Vector3 that help with the template
implementation of the dynamic BVH by uniformizing the interface between
2D and 3D math.

See discussion in #43811, it was only implemented on iOS and even that
implementation was fairly limited. This would best be provided as plugins
for Android and iOS without cluttering the shared OS API.
Various fixes to UV2 unwrapping and the GPU lightmapper. Listed here for
context in case of git blame/bisect:
* Fix UV2 unwrapping on import, also cleaned up the unwrap cache code.
* Fix saving of RGBA images in EXR format.
* Fixes to the GPU lightmapper:
- Added padding between atlas elements, avoids bleeding.
- Remove old SDF generation code.
- Fix baked attenuation for Omni/Spot lights.

We've been using standard C library functions `memcpy`/`memset` for these since
2016 with 67f65f6639.
There was still the possibility for third-party platform ports to override the
definitions with a custom header, but this doesn't seem useful anymore.
Use ThreadWorkPool to process physics step tasks in multiple threads. Collisions are all processed in parallel and solving impulses is
processed in parallel for rigid body islands.
Additional changes:
- Proper islands for soft bodies linked to active bodies
- All moving areas are on separate islands (can be parallelized)
- Fix inconsistencies with body islands (Kinematic bodies could link
bodies together or not depending on the processing order)
- Completely prevent static bodies to be active (it could cause islands
to be wrongly created and cause dangerous multi-threading operations as
well as inconsistencies in created islands)
- Apply impulses only on dynamic bodies to avoid unsafe multi-threaded
operations (static bodies can be on multiple islands)
- Removed inverted iterations when populating body islands, it's now
faster in regular order (maybe after fixing inconsistencies)
Added an occlusion culling system with support for static occluder meshes.
It can be enabled via `Project Settings > Rendering > Occlusion Culling > Use Occlusion Culling`.
Occluders are defined via the new `Occluder3D` resource and instanced using the new
`OccluderInstance3D` node. The occluders can also be automatically baked from a
scene using the built-in editor plugin.
* Particle shaders now have start() and process()
* Particle collision happens between them.
* The RESTART property is kept, so porting an old shader is still possible.
This fixes the problem of particle collisions not functioning on the first particle frame.
-Used a more consistent set of keywords for the shader
-Remove all harcoded entry points
-Re-wrote the GLSL shader parser, new system is more flexible. Allows any entry point organization.

Several optimizations in the way solver islands are processed in both
2D and 3D physics:
- Use LocalVector instead of linked list to avoid cache misses (with
persistent storage based on worst case scenario)
- Remove pairs when setup fails (no valid contact) to avoid unnecessary
solving of non-colliding rigid bodies just to return immediately
Fixes#46181
CameraServer.add_feed() takes a CameraFeed object type as parameter.
Passing in another type of data while binding the method it will make
tha parameter null.
Added a check for null which returns from function and does not make the
engine crash anymore.
The program would fail if the parameter is passed as null in set_primary_interface because
in the print_verbose, the get_namea) method is called on the parameter and this causes a
failure if the parameter that was passed is null.
Same fix was done in 3.x also and it seems to be present in master too.
The moment of inertia calculation for BoxShape is:
```

```
where the final line includes both the x and y extents.
However, for CapsuleShape3D, CylinderShape3D, ConvexPolygonShape3D, ConcavePolygonShape3D, and HeightMapShape3D, the final line read `(p_mass / 3.0) * (extents.y * extents.y + extents.y * extents.y)`. I believe this is a mistake, considering the comment in each case mentions using an AABB approximation, which should follow the same approach as BoxShape.
This change corrects the final line to include both the x and y components of the shape's extent.
The functions that used it already use a threadsafe FIFO queue
to communicate between threads and a sync to have the main thread
wait for the render thread.

The angular velocity estimate for kinematic bodies was calculated
incorrectly. Also, fixes its use in some kinematic/rigid collision
calculations.
This fixes#47029.
Helps a lot with soft bodies and generally useful to avoid shapes to go
through the ground in certain cases.
Added an option in ConcavePolygonShape to re-enable backface collision
on specific bodies if needed.
- Fixed SoftBody surface update with new rendering system
- Added GodotPhysics implementation for SoftBody
- Added support to get SoftBody rid to interact with the physics server
- Added support to get SoftBody bounds from the physics server
- Removed support for unused get_vertex_position and get_point_offset
from the physics server
- Removed SoftBody properties that are unused in both Bullet and
GodotPhysics (angular and volume stiffness, pose matching)
- Added RenderingServerHandler interface to PhysicsServer3D so the physics servers don't need to reference the class from SoftBody node directly
Test specific axes before falling back to GJK-EPA algorithm to get more
accurate separation axes for common cases, the same way it's done for
cylinder-cylinder collision.
In the case of falling back to GJK-EPA algorithm to generate cylinder
contact points, margins were never taken into account.
This fixes the depenetration phase for kinematic bodies and allows
consistent floor detection for cylinder shapes.
In 3D, collision is disabled between kinematic/static bodies when
contacts are generated only to report them.
In 2D, this case was already fixed but the code is cleaned to make it
easier to follow.
Fixes#46738 by setting the default inertia to a valid value when there are no valid shapes for a 3d body.
Changed the comment style for the update_inertias method as well.
Joint3DSW instances are also destroyed without explicitly calling free()
for example when changing constrainted bodies at runtime using
set_node method.
- Based on C++11's `atomic`
- Reworked `SafeRefCount` (based on the rewrite by @hpvb)

This change makes test_body_motion more reliable when the kinematic body
recovers from being stuck.
- When recovery occurs, the rest information is generated, in order to
make sure collision results from test_move, move_and_collide and
move_and_slide are consistent and return a collision in case of overlap.
- The new calculation for recovery vector makes sure the recovery is
never more than the overlap depth between shapes.
This can help with cases where the kinematic body overlaps with several
shapes.
Recovery is made iteratively, without forcing a full overlap at each
step. This helps with getting proper rest information when recovery
occurs.
- One Way Collision:
When attempting motion, contact direction is checked against motion
before skipping in order to solve cases where kinematic bodies can sink
into one-way collision shapes.
Rest info now sets max contact depth in order to properly handle one-way
collision.
- Low speed motion is now handled in the rest info, by never setting
min_allowed_depth lower than motion length.
Separation is always applied with full margin, otherwise contact is lost
when low speed motion occurs right after higher speed motion.
- Similar changes are applied to 3D in order to make 2D and 3D
consistent.
Cylinder contact points generation is adjusted to make it more stable
when standing on triangle meshes.
Point-Circle:
Switched to simpler plane projection as it's done for Point-Face contact
points. It solves some cases where discrepancies between the two points
caused the cylinder to jump.
Edge-Circle:
Same as before, the case for edge has just been moved from Face-Circle
to a specific method.
Face-Circle:
The previous method was clipping edges against the circle, and then
tried to add contact points when there wasn't enough support and failed
in some cases.
Now using a different algorithm which adds proper contact points around
the circle more consistently.
First, by clipping edges against circle segments using Face-Face
algorithm.
Second, by clipping edges against the circle plane.
Cylinder collision detection uses a mix of SAT and GJKEPA.
GJKEPA is used to find the best separation axis in cases where finding
it analytically is too complex.
Changes in SAT solver:
Added support for generating separation axes for cylinder shape.
Added support for generating contact points with circle feature.
Changes in GJKEPA solver:
Updated from latest Bullet version which includes EPA fixes in some
scenarios.
Setting a lower EPA_ACCURACY to fix accuracy problems with cylinder vs.
cylinder in some cases.
-Rendering server now uses a split RID allocate/initialize internally, this allows generating RIDs immediately but initialization to happen later on the proper thread (as rendering APIs generally requiere to call on the right thread).
-RenderingServerWrapMT is no more, multithreading is done in RenderingServerDefault.
-Some functions like texture or mesh creation, when renderer supports it, can register and return immediately (so no waiting for server API to flush, and saving staging and command buffer memory).
-3D physics server changed to be made multithread friendly.
-Added PhysicsServer3DWrapMT to use 3D physics server from multiple threads.

This change allows collide_shape, intersect_shape, cast_motion and
rest_info in both 2D and 3D to ignore disabled shapes and make them
consistent with the physics simulation.
In some other cases, _cull_aabb_for_body is used and filters shapes out
internally, but whenever a physics query uses the broadphase directly
without calling _cull_aabb_for_body, disabled shapes can be returned
and need to be filtered out.
Inverted the spotlight angle attenuation so a higher value results in
a dimmer light, this makes it more consistent with the distance
attenuation.
Also changed the way spotlighs are computed in SDFGI
and GIPorbes and GPU lightmapper, now it matches the falloff used in the scene rendering
code.
-Always use temporal reproject, it just loos way better than any other filter.
-By always using termporal reproject, the shadowmap reduction can be done away with, massively improving performance.
-Disadvantage of temporal reproject is update latency so..

Channels that are inactive -or when playback has not started yet- will report -200 dB as their peak value (which is also the lowest value possible during playback).
- Based on C++11's `thread` and `thread_local`
- No more need to allocate-deallocate or check for null
- No pointer anymore, just a member variable
- Platform-specific implementations no longer needed (except for the few cases of non-portable functions)

- fixes scale values of 0.0013 (det == 0.00004) not rendering, they should render even at small values, but not at zero like the editor grid plugin supplies zero exactly.

- fix culling with small scaling values - which are still valid to be rendered like 0.00004
note: grid is still not fixed, it has det == 0 issues but this fixes one of them.

For RigidBodies, uses the collision normal determined by relative motion
to determine whether or not a one-way collision has occurred.
For KinematicBodies, performs additional checks to ensure a one-way
collision has occurred, and averages the recovery step over all collision
shapes.
